APM - Advanced Platter Mat

The stylus tracks at over 20,000 G. That is a lot of energy entering the record. If it lingers, you hear it as colouration — “analogue sound”. That's why the mat is critical.

Most manufacturers use felt and rubber, so aren't they the best? No, they are the CHEAPEST!  Neither absorbs energy effectively and instead returns it to the cartridge.

Check out the response plots from HiFi Choice. We want a flat line: The first is a rubber mat. It just keeps bouncing along. Teh second i felt and although it's a lot smoother later on, it starts of really badly, and of course th eear hears it. More colouration.

Colouration frm the mat is one of the main reasons we hear "Analogue sound". Another major contributor to "Analogue Sound" is the arm. Think about it: both sit wither side of the cartridge and it senses any distortions and turns them into your problem!  

Achromat uses millions of micro-bubbles to dissipate it. APM goes considerably further.

APM features a fully bonded glass sub-plate to deliver two benefits:

First, it fully supports the Achromat layer - far better than stickers. This optimises the mat in its operation. Just check out how close to a flat line it achieves!

Second: The glass then helps stop thin, resonant platters from ringing. Suddenly and incredibly, your thin platter which when tapped, tells you "Look, I'm budget", is transformed. It now performs more like a £5,000 deck. It is very dead indeed. All for the cost of a mat, a mat which not only kille resonance, btu also damps record vibration.
