Achromat is Funk's original mat. Here's how it works.

Energy from the motor drives the platter, the record and the groove. The stylus converts that movement into music, experiencing accelerations exceeding 20,000 G in the process.

That's a lot of energy entering the record. If it isn't dissipated, it returns to the stylus as colouration — part of what we recognise as "analogue sound".

That's where the mat becomes critical.

Felt and rubber are the most common mat materials, but neither dissipates that energy effectively.

Achromat is different. Its millions of microscopic bubbles dissipate unwanted energy, reducing colouration and allowing more of the music through. Whenit was launched it was an industry game-changer.

Twenty years of development. And now APM.

The original 3 mm Achromat is suitable for flat platters, but the introduction of APM has taken Achromat's performance to another level. As a result, the 3 mm mat is now our entry-level offering.

IMPORTANT — TECHNICS OWNERS

The 3 mm Achromat is NOT suitable for Technics models with lipped platters. Its diameter means it rests on the raised lip, rather than sitting correctly on the platter surface.

The solution? APM — Advanced Platter Mat.

Now available in a new 5 mm thickness, APM builds on Achromat's energy-dissipating design, with a fully bonded glass sub-plate for improved performance.

And even if your turntable has a flat platter, APM remains the higher-performance choice.
